Wellness Room
The Wellness Room in Smithers Hall, Room 220, is a testament to the collaborative efforts of the CAS Wellness Lab team including GSAPP MAP students (Mariem Abid, Brianna Eng, Ritika Malhotra), CAS faculty (Dr. Peggy Swarbrick) and staff (Tasha Bulgin) , and Applied Staff (Dr. Sarah Weinsztok). This project was driven by data gathered from GSAPP students, ensuring that the space truly meets their needs. The transformation of a small storage closet into a serene wellness room demonstrates the power of community-driven design.
During the open house on April 2nd and 3rd, many attendees reported feeling a profound sense of peace upon entering the room. The thoughtful arrangement, based on student feedback, has created an environment that promotes relaxation and calm. Despite its small size, the room’s design maximizes its potential to provide a tranquil retreat for students.
Importance of Transforming Spaces for Peace and Calm
Finding and creating spaces within our immediate environment that foster peace, and calm is crucial for our well-being. The wellness room serves as a reminder that even small, overlooked areas can be transformed into valuable sanctuaries. This initiative highlights the importance of listening to community needs and using collaborative efforts to enhance our surroundings.
April is a month dedicated to celebrating Earth Day and promoting environmental wellness. The wellness room aligns perfectly with these themes, as it encourages mindfulness and a connection to our environment. By repurposing an existing space, the project also emphasizes sustainability and the importance of making the most of what we have. This effort not only benefits the immediate community but also contributes to a broader culture of environmental consciousness and wellness.
