Our Mission
The mission of the Center of Alcohol and Substance Use Studies (CAS) in the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology is to conduct, coordinate, and promote multidisciplinary research on the biopsychosocial mechanisms underlying alcohol and substance use disorders, with a particular focus on traumatic stress and health disparities. CAS applies cutting-edge data science methodologies, including machine learning, predictive analytics, and large-scale data integration, to advance translational research from discovery to clinical application.
The Center is committed to providing community-engaged, data-informed research training opportunities in substance use prevention and treatment, and to translating and disseminating research findings through local, national, and international media outlets to promote public awareness and evidence-based solutions.
This short video features staff and faculty, who present on the history of the Center and its influence on the field. The video also highlights our research, our journal, the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs, and our educational offerings.
