Emmanuel “Manny” Alvarez, Ph.D. is a postdoctoral fellow at the Center of Alcohol & Substance Use Studies, Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology. Prior to joining Rutgers for his PhD in Neuroscience in 2019, he received a B.S. in Psychology from Rowan University. There, Manny explored the impact of subclinical and clinical psychopathology on reward sensitivity. During his doctoral studies, using a combination of behavioral experiments, neuroimaging, and experience sampling in a “real-world” population, he examined how individuals with opioid use disorder incorporate information about consequences of their drug use into their decisions to use drugs. Manny’s research currently leverages computational methods to improve treatment outcomes in clinical trials for those with substance use disorders.
