New Publication Highlights the Urgent Need for Gender-Specific Addiction Research

We are pleased to announce the online publication of the article “Gender-specific addiction research needed now more than ever: Reflections from 25 years of the NIDA Clinical Trials Network Gender Special Interest Group,” co-authored by Dr. Hien and colleagues. The article is now available on ScienceDirect, with all author corrections incorporated.

Drawing on 25 years of work within the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) Clinical Trials Network Gender Special Interest Group, this article reflects the evolution, challenges, and future directions of gender-specific addiction research. The authors underscore the critical importance of addressing gender differences in substance use disorders, treatment response, and recovery outcomes, an issue that has become increasingly urgent in today’s evolving public health landscape.
