Angelo DiBello Receives the G. Alan Marlatt Mid-Career Award
Dr. Angelo DiBello is the 2024 awardee of the prestigious G. Alan Marlatt Mid-Career Research Award. This award is named for Dr. Marlatt, a pioneer of cognitive-behavioral research on addictive behaviors. It honors researchers that have demonstrated a commitment to understanding mechanisms of addiction and advancing evidence-based clinical practice in the addictions. Dr. DiBello will be honored at the ABCT Annual Convention this November in Philadelphia.
Dr. DiBello is an Associate Professor in the Applied Department of the Rutgers Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology. His research examines addictive behaviors and health including heavy drinking among college students and brief substance use interventions for young adults. His work aims to leverage social psychological theories as tools for changing personal attitudes, reducing defensiveness, and enhancing the receptivity and duration of prevention and intervention efforts. Dr. DiBello also has expertise in multiple quantitative methodologies and psychometric procedures. His work has been supported by several agencies including the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), National Institute on Aging (NIA), and the Carlsberg Foundation. In addition to his own research, Dr. DiBello is actively engaged in mentorship of graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and early career researchers. He has served as the instructor of record for four courses in GSAPP, and is highly involved in service at the department, institutional, and professional organizational levels.
