Dr. Sungjin Im is a postdoctoral fellow in the Center of Alcohol & Substance Use Studies at Rutgers University. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Arizona with a BA in psychology. Dr. Im earned his master’s and doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the University of Nevada, Reno. Before Dr. Im recently joined Rutgers, he completed his predoctoral internship at Stony Brook University where he worked with individuals with severe mental illness and psychiatric emergencies. Dr. Im has strong research interests in translational research that narrows the gap between cognitive neuroscience and its application to the treatment of psychopathology. During his tenure at Rutgers, he hopes to further his understanding of psychophysiological mechanisms that underlie substance use and PTSD. As a clinician, Dr. Im received extensive training in mindfulness-based approaches including acceptance commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) and published a book chapter and papers on related topics.
