Lorraine Y. Howard, LCSW, LCADC is the Director of Addiction Education at Rutgers Center of Alcohol & Substance Use Studies (CAS), Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology. She received her Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Social Work from Rutgers University. Ms. Howard is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC) in New Jersey. She is also the founder of Jamii Counseling and Consultant LLC, providing counseling services, program evaluation and development, trainings/workshops and supervision of (L) CADC’s and LSW’s.
Ms. Howard has over 18 years of experience working in the field of social work and addictions working with families and individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, educational and other diverse backgrounds and over 15 years’ experience as an administrator and trainer for various social service agencies. Through her professional experiences, Ms. Howard has participated in a number of training initiatives to develop and enhance her knowledge and clinical skills of the ever-changing field of behavioral health and addictions. She is also certified in several cognitive-behavioral programs ranging from substance abuse to anger management and SMART Recovery as a facilitator and trainer. Ms. Howard strongly believes in the ethical principle of competence.
Ms. Howard’s training, education and experience has provided her with a range of advanced skills in her work in clinical, supervision and trainer roles. As an Administrator and adjunct faculty member at Rutgers University and expert trainer, she is committed to training up an army of change agents; especially in the ever growing field of behavioral health and addictions. This philosophy carriers over to her dedication to supervising other professionals that are equally dedicated to their professional development and growth; part of her training and supervision focuses on preparing for professional certificate/licensing exams. Ms. Howard teaches graduate and undergraduate level courses at the Center of Alcohol & Substance Use Studies and School of Social Work at Rutgers University.
