SUMMARY:Dr. Mateo Leganes-Fonteneau
DESCRIPTION:In this seminar Dr. Leganes-Fonteneau will present some of the research he has been conducting over the past year and a half at the Center of Alcohol & Substance Use Studies. His research focuses on interoception\, the perception of bodily sensations\, shapes cognitive and addictive processes.\nDr. Leganes-Fonteneau will discuss novel findings on the relationship between cardiac physiology and alcohol cognitive biases\, explaining how alcohol administration generates bodily states that can guide drug related behaviors. He will also present preliminary data on the effects of alcohol administration on cardiac interoceptive awareness\, the perception of one’s own heartbeat\, and how these changes shape alcohol attentional biases. Dr. Leganes-Fonteneau will also discuss preliminary data of an experimental study aimed at increasing cardiac interoceptive awareness through a biofeedback breathing task and discuss the possible .\nFinally\, Dr. Leganes-Fonteneau will present the results of a novel emotional visual search task with which we study the effects of cardiac signals on emotional detection\, expanding on how these results broaden our understanding of the interoceptive mechanisms supporting emotional processing and how they can be translated to the study of addiction and other mental health disorders.WEBEX Meeting number: 792 176 732Password: fjPPVU4M83Phttps://rutgers.webex.com/rutgers/j.php?MTID=mdde12f864a92b03b6b81e42eb67aa1d0
