ACADEMIC PROGRAMS
Center faculty have developed a set of core courses - the Alcohol Studies Curriculum - aimed at offering graduate students in degree programs, especially in the social and health sciences, the opportunity to acquire in-depth knowledge in the areas of alcohol and drug use and abuse, its effects, and its prevention and treatment. The Center also offers a certificate program in alcohol studies.
As associate or full members of other departments, Center faculty serve as primary advisors and/or members of thesis and dissertation committees. The Center's core curriculum consists of six courses. Students may also enroll in independent studies with Center faculty.
In addition to their participation in the core curriculum, Center faculty from each Division offer a wide range of courses (both graduate and undergraduate) in other University units including:
- Biochemistry
- Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology
- FAS Psychology
- Sociology
- Urban Studies and Community Health.
Center faculty members are active participants in student training as research mentors and clinical supervisors. Center faculty act as dissertation and master's thesis advisors and serve as committee members for dozens of graduate students each year.
In addition to these formal research mentoring relationships, most of the Clinical Division's faculty serve as clinical supervisors or case examiners for clinical Ph.D. and Psy.D. students in FAS Psychology and the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology.
