SUBSTANCE ABUSE RESOURCES ON THE WEB
General Internet Resources

A growing number of people are now using the Internet to locate information on everything from recreation, travel, and the arts to business, science, and health. The Internet provides access to all kinds of resources--government agencies, not-for-profit organizations, commercial businesses and corporations, health care agencies, academic and research institutions--many of  which offer substance abuse information.  What kinds of substance abuse information is out there in cyberspace? The number of websites specializing in substance abuse continues to grow, although the amount and type of  information varies. Most sites will offer some or all of the following: 

  • basic information on alcohol and other drugs (AOD)
  • publications for downloading or ordering
  • searchable databases of AOD books, articles, etc.
  • statistical information
  • announcements of grant and training programs
  • links to other related prevention, research, and treatment resources 
Following are highlights of several of the best-known substance abuse websites. This is not intended as an exhaustive compilation; however, it can serve as a place to start when seeking information and as a door to further resources that may be of help.
