Dr. Bates is the Associate Director of CAS and director of the Cardiac Neuroscience Laboratory, which promotes translation between basic human experimental and clinical science. Her transdisciplinary research program seeks to build novel intervention and prevention approaches to alcohol and drug related problems based on neurocognitive and neurocardiac mechanisms of behavior change. Dr. Bates is Vice-Chair of the Rutgers Institutional Review Board, a member of the Behavioral and Social Advisory Council of ABMRF/The Foundation for Alcohol Research, and Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of Alcohol Research Documentation, Inc. She is an Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs, and Consulting Editor of Psychology of Addictive Behaviors. Dr. Bates is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (APA), previously served as President of APA Division 50, the Society of Addiction Psychologists (SoAP), and received SoAP’s 2011 Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award.
